Background

Az-Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam (RA) was born into the noble Quraysh tribe in Mecca.

He was the paternal first cousin of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He was among the first to embrace Islam, influenced by his aunt, Khadijah (RA), the wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and Abu Bakr (RA), in his teenage years.

Despite facing severe persecution, he remained steadfast in his faith.

Loyalty and Dedication

Az-Zubayr (RA) was known for his extraordinary bravery and martial skills.

He participated in numerous battles, including Badr, Uhud, and Khandaq, where he fought valiantly for the cause of Islam.

His fearless nature earned him the title of “The Disciple” of the Prophet (PBUH).

Az-Zubayr (RA) was not only a courageous warrior but also a loyal companion to the Prophet (PBUH).

His unwavering dedication and willingness to sacrifice for the sake of Islam made him a key figure in the early Muslim community, facing criticism and threats by his uncle Naufal ibn Khuwayrid (Nicknamed the “Shaytan of Quraysh”)

He supported the Prophet (PBUH) through thick and thin, showcasing his deep commitment to Islam.

Az-Zubayr (RA) was honoured to be one of the ten companions promised Paradise by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Application Today

If you really want something, you’re willing to sacrifice everything else for it.

Az-Zubayr (RA) sacrificed his family ties, reputation, and standard of living for the message of Islam.

Let’s say you want to strive for a lofty goal, like becoming a millionaire.

You might have to skip those social events, work 18 hour days, and fight your internal doubts on a regular basis.

Which begs the question- Are you willing to stay dedicated and disciplined to the cause?

Az-Zubayr (RA) sacrificed much more than we did, for a cause much greater than we can ever replicate.

However, we can still implement his virtues of dedication and discipline.

May we strive to emulate his virtues in our own lives and contribute positively to our communities.
