The Night of Power- First Revelation of the Qur’an

“We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power”

Qur’an (97:1)

Introduction
The revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Cave Hira (Mount Nur) by Angel Gabriel (AS) marked the inception of Prophethood.

This pivotal event transformed Muhammad (PBUH) from a respected merchant to the Messenger of Allah, tasked with conveying God’s message to humanity.

Background
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) frequently retreated to Cave Hira, seeking solitude and reflection away from the corruption of Mecca.

At the age of 40, during one such retreat in Ramadan, he was visited by Angel Gabriel (AS), who commanded, “Read” (Iqra).

This moment marked the first revelation, with the first verses of Surah Al-Alaq being revealed.

Prophethood
Terrified and overwhelmed, the Prophet (PBUH) returned home, where his wife, Khadijah (RA), comforted him.

She took him to her cousin, Waraqa ibn Nawfal, who confirmed that this was the same Angel who had brought revelations to previous Prophets.

This began the 23-year journey of prophethood, where the Qur’an was revealed gradually as a complete guide for humanity, addressing every aspect of life.

This event laid the foundation of the Islamic faith, guiding billions worldwide.

Application Today
The revelation in Cave Hira emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge, reflection, and solitude.

The first commands addressed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and humanity was to “Read”, emphasising the importance of knowledge.

We must implement this command of Allah (SWT) in our lives by continuously reading, learn, and improving as Muslims.

Pick up a book, enrol on a course, try that new job, and most importantly read the the Qur’an on a daily basis.

The wisdom and knowledge in the Qur’an is more supreme than any knowledge acquired by man.

Conclusion
The first revelation in Cave Hira was not just a significant moment in the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but a transformative event for all of humanity.

It initiated the final divine guidance through the Qur’an, which continues to inspire and direct the lives of billions till Judgement Day.

Reflecting on this event reminds us of the power of faith, the importance of seeking knowledge, and the enduring relevance of the Qur’an in our daily lives.

May we prioritise the gift of the Holy Qur’an in our daily lives.

Ameen
