Abu Bakr (RA)- The Best Companion

Everyone needs a companion.

Someone to share life’s struggles with.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had Abu Bakr (RA) throughout his Prophethood.

Today, we’ll explore the inspiring life and legacy of Abu Bakr (RA), the first caliph of Islam, known for his unwavering faith, leadership, and dedication to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Muslim community.

Background

Abdullah ibn Abi Quhafa,known as Abu Bakr (RA), was born during the year 573.

He (RA) was the closest companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) before and during Prophethood.

Known for his wisdom, integrity, and devotion, he embraced Islam early and played a crucial role in the early Muslim community.

Faith and Loyalty

Abu Bakr (RA) was renowned for his unshakeable faith and loyalty to the Prophet (PBUH).

Abu Bakr was given the title of “Al-Siddiq” (The Truthful) after he professed his belief in the Prophet’s (PBUH) Night journey (Isra and Mi’raj) with unwavering faith.

He supported the Prophet (PBUH) in every endeavor, from the migration (Hijra) to Medina to participating in major battles like Badr and Uhud.

Following the death of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Abu Bakr (RA) was unanimously elected as the first caliph of Islam.

Despite the challenges he faced, including the Ridda wars (wars of apostasy), he successfully unified the Muslim Ummah and preserved the teachings of Islam.

Abu Bakr(RA) died two years after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in 634.

Legacy

Abu Bakr (RA) left a profound legacy of faith, leadership, and service to Islam.

His actions and decisions set a strong foundation for the future of the Muslim community.

He was known for his generosity, freeing many slaves, including Bilal ibn Rabah (RA), and his commitment to justice and equality.

Application Today

We must have faith in our friends, family, and wider society.

Faith in the truth requires bravery.

We must be brave enough to aid others in the pursuit of truth despite the consequences.

Just like Abu Bakr (RA) had faith in the truth of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) message and aided him.

We must aid our friends, family, and society in pursuing the truth and shunning falsehood.

In practical terms, this could mean…

Giving dawah to others regardless of their hostility towards Islam…

Or helping a friend jumpstart their business despite others mockeries’…

Or speak against oppression occuring around the world.

This must done with faith, bravery and devotion.

May we strive to emulate Abu Bakr’s (RA) virtues in our own lives and uphold the principles of companionship towards our fellow man.

إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدْ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذْ أَخْرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثَانِىَ ٱثْنَيْنِ إِذْ هُمَا فِى ٱلْغَارِ إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا ۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَهُۥ بِجُنُودٍۢ لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلسُّفْلَىٰ ۗ وَكَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِىَ ٱلْعُلْيَا ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

˹It does not matter˺ if you ˹believers˺ do not support him, for Allah did in fact support him when the disbelievers drove him out ˹of Mecca˺ and he was only one of two. While they both were in the cave, he reassured his companion,[1] “Do not worry; Allah is certainly with us.” So Allah sent down His serenity upon the Prophet, supported him with forces you ˹believers˺ did not see, and made the word of the disbelievers lowest, while the Word of Allah is supreme. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

[1] Abu Bakr Aṣ-Ṣiddîq, Islam’s first Caliph and a prominent figure in Islamic history. He accompanied the Prophet (ﷺ) during his emigration from Mecca to Medina after years of persecution at the hands of the Meccan pagans.
