In modern times, there is a dispute between creationists and evolutionists.
Creationists believe God created Adam and Eve as the first human beings.
Evolutionists argue that we descend from primitive hominids.
Let’s delve into the Islamic view of the origin of Humanity.
Creation
The story of Adam (AS) in the Qur’an exemplifies the beginning of humanity.
Prophet Adam (AS) was created by Allah(SWT), endowed with knowledge and wisdom.
The Angels were ordered to prostrate before Adam (AS).
All obeyed except Satan.
Paradise was the abode of Adam (AS) and his wife, Hawwa (Eve).
The Test
Allah (SWT) ordered Adam (AS) and his wife not to get close to a particular tree in Paradise and he obeyed.
After some time, Satan persuaded Adam (AS) to eat from the Tree as he told him it will give him eternal life (lie).
It is worth noting that Adam (AS) never heard a lie before, so he believed Satan.
Out of his (AS) forgetfulness, Adam (AS) and his wife ate from the forbidden Tree.
This subsequently broke Allahs (SWT) covenant with Adam (AS).
Leading to Adam (AS) and his wife being cast out of Paradise and sent to Earth.
Allah (SWT) taught Adam (AS) to repent from his mistake (see verse below).
Legacy:
Adam (AS) was chosen by Allah to be the Vicegerent (Kalifah) of Earth.
Tasked with guiding his descendants and exemplifying devotion to the Creator.
Prophet Adam’s (AS) legacy extends beyond his time, symbolising the innate potential and fallibility of humanity.
His story teaches us the importance of seeking forgiveness, striving for righteousness, and cultivating a profound relationship with Allah (SWT).
A Lesson To Learn
Despite facing expulsion from Paradise, Prophet Adam (AS) maintained faith and sought Allah’s (SWT) guidance.
His story reminds us of the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of life’s challenges.
More importantly, to be humble enough to seek forgiveness for our mistakes and learn from them.
To get back up after we fall!
As long as you’re breathing, there’s still hope.
SURAH AL-BAQARAH AYAT 37
Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.
