“O Allah! Increase his wealth and offspring and bless (for him) whatever You give him.”
–Prophet (ﷺ)
Bismillah,
When you do something, do it 100%.
Or don’t do it at all.
Among the noble companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, few were as close and consistent in companionship as Anas ibn Malik (RA).
As a young boy, He (RA) had the extraordinary honour of serving the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for ten years, witnessing firsthand the mercy, character, and daily life of the Prophet ﷺ.
His (RA) life is a powerful example of love, loyalty, humility, and lifelong dedication to Islam.
A Gift from His Mother
Anas ibn Malik was just ten years old when his mother, Umm Sulaym (RA), brought him to the Prophet ﷺ shortly after his arrival in Madinah. She said:
“O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Anas is your servant, so please invoke for Allah’s blessing for him.”
From that moment, Anas (RA) began a service that would not only shape His (RA) own life but would become a valuable source of knowledge and transmission of the Prophet’s ﷺ teachings for the generations to come.
Serving with Love and Learning with Devotion
Anas (RA) served the Prophet ﷺ in household affairs, travel, prayers, and daily routines, and yet He (RA) never saw from the Prophet ﷺ any sign of harshness.
He (RA) famously narrated:
“I served the Prophet for ten years. He never said Uff and never blamed me by saying: ‘Why did you do so’ or why did you not do so?”
This close proximity allowed Anas to absorb the Prophet’s ﷺ character deeply—and later become one of the most prolific narrators of hadith.
A Rich Source of Hadith
Anas ibn Malik (RA) is among the top narrators of hadith, having narrated over 2,000 hadiths.
His (RA) narrations provide rich details about the Prophet’s ﷺ behaviour, worship, and emotional expressions—many of which might not have been known without Anas’ observations.
His (RA) hadiths include moments of tenderness, humour, miracles, and daily life that help bring the Seerah to life in vivid detail.
Legacy and Longevity
The Prophet ﷺ made a beautiful dua for Anas (RA), saying:
“O Allah! Increase his wealth and offspring and bless (for him) whatever You give him.”
This dua was indeed fulfilled—Anas lived to over 100 years, saw over a hundred of His (RA) descendants, and was blessed with great wealth and wisdom.
