Hudعليه السلام – Confronting Pride with Humility

Pride is the Devil!

Pride made Satan not prostrate to Adam (AS) after Allah (SWT) ordered him to do so.

Resulting in Satan’s eternal damnation.

Pride only belongs to Allah (SWT).

The story of Hud (AS) in the Qur’an demonstrates how destructive pride can be, and how we can combat pride with humility.

Background

After the Great Flood, Nuh (AS) descendant Hud (AS) was sent to the people of ‘Aad.

Prophet Hud (AS) was chosen by Allah to convey His message to the people of ‘Aad, an ancient Arabian tribe known for their strength and arrogance.

‘Aad were known for building great buildings.

Despite growing up in a society steeped in idolatry and injustice, Hud (AS) maintained unwavering faith and integrity.

During Prophethood:

Hud (AS) received divine revelation and fearlessly confronted the ‘Aad with Allah’s message of monotheism and righteousness.

He emphasized the consequences of their arrogance and disobedience, urging them to repent and turn back to Allah.

Despite facing ridicule and hostility, Prophet Hud (AS) remained steadfast in his mission.

Hud (AS) maintained his humidity towards his Lord and mission.

Legacy

Prophet Hud’s (AS) mission serves as a timeless reminder of the consequences of pride and disobedience.

As well as the importance of humility and submission to Allah (SWT).

While the ‘Aad ultimately faced divine punishment due to their refusal to heed Hud(AS) warnings.

Application

This story demonstrates the importance of relying on and attributing our strength to Allah(SWT) in all endeavors.

Being humble enough to show respect towards others despite their economic, social, and ethnic background.

We must in all cases resist the Satanic temptation of pride and arrogance, otherwise we will be no better than the people of ‘Aad.

May we emulate his courage, humility, and trust in Allah (SWT) as we navigate life’s challenges and strive to uphold the principles of faith and righteousness.

Ameen!

SURAH AL-A’RAF (7:65):

And to the people of ’Âd We sent their brother Hûd. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. You do nothing but fabricate lies ˹against Allah˺.
